Sanctuary for the Unloved
Year - 5
Institution - The Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL
Project Type - Wildlife Sanctuary
Location - Mill Meads, East London
The project develops an unconventional sanctuary architecture, utilising a variety of existing materials which are arranged to create a plethora of niches, crevices and atmospheres, allowing certain creatures to flourish. The project includes spaces for the public to understand how nature has taken over these structures, as well as research facility spaces for ecologists to study the wildlife on the site.
University Year 5, produced in Unreal Engine 4
This was my final animation for my masters project at the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL.
Cabildo de Pacha (The Council of Earth)
Year - 4
Institution - The Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL
Project Type - Council building, library, event space
Location - Bogota, Colombia
The project investigates the reinterpretation of Spanish Colonial architecture in the context of an indigenous society called the Muisca. It establishes a permanent home for the Muisca Cabildo (town council) in Suba, Bogotá. It seeks to introduce a main library space, office spaces for the town council, as well a public Muisca garden within Suba Central Square. Inspiration for this project came initially from the Spanish roof tile. I was interested in how adding another function to the tile other than that of rain screening changed its form, function and character. This led me to proposing two of my own tiles for this project - these became the design drivers for the Muisca Cabildo.
The Meadow
Year - 3
Institution - Nottingham University
Project Type - Ecological Filtration & Remediation Facility
Location - Thamesmead, East London
As our populations grow and reliance on natural resources becomes ever greater, the notion of sustainability must follow suit. Thamesmead presented the exciting possibility for me to explore sustainable design and animal conservation as the nature of the site prior to the development was that of marshland habitats for a plethora of wildlife. Yet, these important ecological environments have seemingly been forgotten as re-purposing of land for industrial processes has taken over, such as the sewage treatment at the Crossness Sewage Treatment Works. Therefore, the scheme ultimately merged the notions of sustainability and the expansion of ecological environments by incorporating natural filtration methodologies to the process of wastewater treatment.
